    Porcelain Patios in Cambridgeshire

Porcelain is the most demanding paving material to lay properly — and the longest-lasting when it is. We specialise in full-bed mortar installations across Cambridge, Huntingdon, Peterborough and the surrounding villages, with no shortcuts on sub-base, priming or jointing.

Why porcelain works in Cambridgeshire gardens

    • Frost-resistant down to -50°C — engineered for the East of England's freeze-thaw cycles
    • Near-zero porosity (under 0.5%) means no sealing, no algae build-up and no annual jet-washing rituals
    • Rectified edges allow tight 3–5mm joints for a crisp, contemporary finish
    • Slip-rated R11 options as standard — safer underfoot when wet than most natural stone
    • Colour-stable: porcelain doesn't fade like sandstone or limestone exposed to UV

How we install a porcelain patio

    Step 1

    Site survey & levels

We assess existing ground, drainage falls and how the patio will tie into the house DPC. Cambridgeshire's clay subsoils often need a deeper sub-base than the spec sheets suggest.

    Step 2

    Excavation & sub-base

Dig to 200–250mm, lay geotextile membrane, then 150mm of MOT Type 1 compacted in 75mm layers. Skipping this is why most failed patios fail.

    Step 3

    Concrete bedding

Full mortar bed (not five-spot dabs) on a primer slurry coat — this is essential for porcelain because the tiles have no porosity to bond mechanically.

    Step 4

    Laying & jointing

Tiles cut on a wet diamond saw for clean edges, then jointed with a flexible polymeric or epoxy resin grout suited to your finish.
